Salzburg was overcoming frustration, 1:1 in storm against Rapid

LASK won duel for third place against WAC in the German Soccer League.

LASK – WAC 2:0 (1:0)

The LASK is the third team in the Bundesliga to take a break from international matches. On Sunday, the Upper Austrians won the nominal top game of the 6th round against the WAC with 2:0 (1:0) and are therefore still unbeaten this season in home games. With its second defeat of the season, the WAC dropped back to seventh place.

Peter Michorl with a free-kick into Kreuzeck (29th) and James Holland with his first Bundesliga goal (48th) shot the LASK to the fourth victory in the sixth game.

WAC coach Christian Ilzer had to give the regular goalkeeper Alexander Kofler, who had injured himself in Friday’s training. For him, Marko Soldo was in the goal, but the 21-year-old was practically unemployed for half an hour. Because the Wolfsberger made the game in the first half, combined well, attacked early and did not let the LASK unfold.

The only chance of the initial phase had also the WAC by a header of Dever Orgill (12.). With the first shot on goal and from a standard situation, however, the previously harmless LASK took the lead. Michorl took a free-kick from about 22 meters into the cross corner.

Mario Leitgeb had the best chance to equalize (33.), before the Linz team added to the score immediately after the break. Holland scored after great preparatory work by Joao Victor and was able to celebrate his first goal in his 133rd Bundesliga game.

Salzburg – Admira 3:1 (1:0)

Red Bull Salzburg has been a cautious frustrator. In their 3-1 home win against the Admira, the Salzburgers were struck by the after-effects of the Champions League, which they missed again, but their sixth win of the season was well deserved. The team of coach Marco Rose is still at the top of the league without losing any points and four points ahead of St. Pölten.

Takumi Minamino (44.), Enock Mwepu (60.) and Amadou Haidara (88.) scored the goals for the Salzburg team four days after the CL drama against Red Star Belgrade (2:2) and brought them the expected compulsory victory. The Admira fought back with all her might, but was relatively far away from the fifth point of this season, despite the goal that Wilhelm Vorsager (68th) had scored in the meantime. For the ninth placed team of coach Ernst Baumeister it was the second league goal of the season.

Storm – Rapid 1:1 (1:0)

Sturm Graz and Rapid said goodbye with a 1:1 remis in the international break. Both teams are lagging behind their expectations with nine points. The Viennese, who moved up to the Europa League group stage on Thursday, are in fifth place just before the now six games of compulsory matches in Graz.

It was the ex-Grazer Deni Alar who saved Rapid from defeat in the Merkur Arena in front of 14,487 spectators with his goal in the 78th minute. Peter Zulj had shot the hosts into the lead with a very controversial penalty kick (37th). Sturm is thus unbeaten in the Bundesliga already five games against Rapid. The 400th home win in the history of the league was denied to the team from Graz, but the 400th draw marked another anniversary for them. See here to know more about Drift Casino.

Rapid coach Goran Djuricin did without a strong rotation this time after the European Cup appearance on Thursday, made only two changes compared to the 1:2 defeat in Bucharest, which was enough for the promotion. Maximilian Hofmann joined the team for the battered Mateo Barac, Veton Berisha replaced Romanian Andrei Ivan in the offensive. In the case of Sturm, there were also two changes compared to the league 1:1 in the WAC. Philipp Huspek surprisingly got the advantage over Philipp Hosiner at the front line, Markus Lackner played instead of Sandi Lovric.
