DFB team liberates: “No longer the hunted” – World Champion
France wants to keep “riding the wave.”
Munich – The starting shot for the new Football Nations League is fired with a bang. When France, the newly crowned world champion, makes a guest appearance at the former title holder’s in Munich on Thursday, the two selections will have a lot to do. The French want to show against the “ex” that they really deserve the trophy. For Germany it’s about the first reparation after the disenchantment.
“Everyone is feeling a “now-first-right” mood in themselves and wants to eradicate the failure,” said DFB team boss Joachim Löw before the start of the new European competition. The German long-term coach stayed on board after the historic failure in the World Cup group phase, he wants to “demand more from his stars again”. 17 players from the World Cup squad are still on board. Mesut Özil and Mario Gomez had declared their resignation after the end, and the former coach of FC Tirol and Austria Wien is now giving up Sami Khedira and Sebastian Rudy.
Reus as part of the rebuilding process
Marco Reus, one of Russia’s stumbling football heroes, on the other hand, is part of the reconstruction. “We have two important games in front of our chests. Directly against the world champion, we have to send out a signal that we can count on us again,” explained the Dortmund star. “It’s a good chance to get straight against France straight away. We want to show that we are still a world-class team,” said Bayern player Leon Goretzka.
Leipzig attacker Timo Werner wants to do his part to “make up for what has happened”. He sees a good opportunity. “I believe that we are no longer the hunted, but the hunters. And we’re no longer under pressure to say we have to win every game because we’re the best team in the world, but we can play freely.”

France comes in the best line-up
But words alone will not be enough against France. The world champion comes to Munich with the almost identical success squad around Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann. “That seems logical to me,” said Didier Deschamps with a view to his nominations. The success coach only has to do without the injured goalkeepers Hugo Lloris and his usual replacement Steve Mandanda. Alphonse Areola of Paris Saint-Germain should therefore make his international debut.
53 days after winning the World Cup final against Croatia, “Les Bleus” will try to continue “riding the wave,” as Deschamps announced. Life goes on even for world champions. “We have achieved extraordinary things. But now a new adventure awaits us with the Nations league and then the EURO 2020 qualifiers in March. We can’t afford to fall asleep,” said Deschamps, who was recently nominated by FIFA as one of three Coach of the Year candidates.
In Group 1 of the new competition, the Netherlands will be represented in League A alongside the DFB selection and Equipe Tricolore. Group victory would mean participation in the four-nation final tournament next June. The last one, on the other hand, will be relegated to Division B.
Fear of a false start
The German nervous system is tense, there is concern about a false start and a possible relegation from the best division. “We have to maintain Level A,” said DFB President Reinhard Grindel. They will “take a close look at how the findings are implemented”. Löw made a good promise: “We take the Nations League very seriously.
The expectations are also enormous in the camp of the Equipe Tricolore. Deschamps said that hopes for the French team were even higher after the World Cup title. “But that must never be a pressure at any time,” the 49-year-old clarified. “We will never complain about being world champion.” Check out the review for Tiny Slots Casino to know more of them!
